On the rare occasion that I get to see J I always like to cram in as much as possible in the precious few days we can spend together. As Easter Sunday evening rolled around, and as it was his last night with me for a fortnight, I asked him on a whim if he'd like to have a little pamper session with me, thinking he'd say no. To my surprise (and delight!) he agreed and so I had a rummage round my stash and found these two Wild Strawberry face masks from Boots Natural Collection (available in store for £1 apiece) that needed using up. I've never used a Natural Collection face mask before, but I love anything that smells of strawberries so I had high hopes...
My hopes were dashed upon application as, I have to say, this mask isn't the best I've experienced. The strawberry scent of the cream smelled incredibly artificial and sweet, which became a little overwhelming the longer I had the mask on my face. The worst part? It burned. It burned immensely. In fact it burned so much that I almost didn't make it to the full recommended 5 minutes of mask drying time. I don't know why it burned, maybe my skin was feeling too dry and sensitive but that sensation has put me off these masks entirely (J said it was burning him too, so it can't have just been my skin!).
In the end we made it to 5 minutes and then used warm water and a face cloth to remove the cream just as I do with any other mask. Apart from the distasteful smell and the horrible burning my skin did feel nice and clean and fresh once I'd washed the mask off. But to be honest, I could have managed the same clean, fresh feeling with a simple cleanser so this mask didn't feel like it was doing anything extra for my skin. I asked J how he felt and he agreed with me that he felt 'more clean' and promptly ran off to play Skyrim. Man of few words that one!
Maybe Boots Natural Collection face masks would be better on someone with less dry/sensitive skin, or maybe we had duff sachets. Either way, I'm glad I tried these, even if they didn't work the way that I would have liked a face mask to. I'm also glad that J agreed to pamper with me, and that he's not afraid to look after his skin. I think that men are sometimes slightly shy about approaching the subject of male grooming/beauty but I'd say, as a self confessed beauty fanatic, get the men involved! I often let J use some of my moisturisers, he even asked for a hair band last night so he could 'remove my hair for maximum face mask coverage'!
So ladies, grab you boyfriends, dads, brothers, uncles, friends...any guy, and get him to join in with you, you might find that they have more of a fun time pampering than you'd think. Perhaps we'll find ourselves in a spa next...
What's your favourite face mask?
Have you ever roped in a guy to pamper with you?

Ps. Are you loving my new edited pics? I have to thank my lovely #bbloggers chums during last night's Twitter chat for pointing me in the direction of PicMonkey. Expect to see more fancy images on Confetti Letters from now on!
Ah, don't you just hate it when face masks do this. I have really dry skin so a lot of the time they kill me.
